Text (include reviews)

Muzique Tropique began life in 1994. Initially, it was the label's name that Kevin McKay and Andy Carrick used to release their brand of deep house. They would change the names of each artist to give the impression that Muzique Tropique was an actual label with bonafide artists. The artists were called 4 AM, West Coast Connection, Urban Revolution, Mystic Soul, American Intrigue and Communication X. Unfortunately, they fooled no one. The Muzique Tropique sound was too distinctive. This impressed Terry Farley, who asked them to produce a twelve for his Jus' Trax label. At the beginning of 1997, they closed down the Muzique Tropique label. Kevin set up Glasgow Underground Recordings, and Muzique Tropique became an artist on that label (alongside other, genuine artists!). Their first release was 'Collection', an album that compiled the choice moments from their back catalogue and a selection of remixes from friends and fans of their sound. They "paid" for the remixes by doing remix swaps. Andrew Weatherall's interpretation of 'Kingston' stands out, as does 16b's killer re-working of 'Jazz The Sea Turtle' and Swag's remarkable re-make of the Roger Sanchez favourite, 'Shipwrecked'. From the originals, the Jus' Trax released 'Siesta' and 'Stella Sunday' both feature the Deep Dish supported 'Kingston' and the late Kenny Hawkes' favourite 'Montego Bay'.
