TIYANI

Edwin 'Tiyani' Baloyi emerged from the vibrant township of Alexandra, where the rhythm of life infused his soul from an early age. Music wasn't just a hobby for him; it was a calling that beckoned him from the corridors of his primary school. Under the guidance of his father, a former Bongo drum player and choir instructor, Tiyani's musical journey began to take shape.

In his youth, Tiyani found solace and inspiration in the keys of a piano, nurtured through lessons at the local community center, Thusong. Yet, life's twists and turns led him away from those lessons momentarily, but music's allure remained steadfast.

By 2008, Tiyani found himself immersed in the pulse of live shows, capturing the essence of the moment through recordings on YFM and Alex FM. Credit to his uncle, a radio host at Alex FM, Tiyani stayed attuned to the latest sounds, borrowing his uncle's Cd compilations to feed his hunger for musical evolution.

The turning point came in 2009 when Tiyani joined a group that included the talented 'Josiah De Disciple'. It was here that he delved into the world of DJ equipment and music software, honing his craft and expanding his sonic horizons.

In 2011, Tiyani co-founded Oddxperienc, a brand that became his canvas for artistic expression. Here, he carved out his unique sonic identity, distinct from the mainstream. His compositions, from the EP "Pound for Pound" to tracks like "Read My Lips" and "Winning," showcased his evolution as a musician.

However, as life unfolded, Tiyani found himself at a crossroads in 2023. Personal reasons led him to part ways with Oddxperienc, prompting the birth of his own label, HLAMULA, meaning "ANSWER." This new chapter allowed him to delve deeper into his creative vision, crafting music that transcended mere beats, but rather, evoked a sense of belonging and identity.

Tiyani's influence extended beyond the dance floors, as he ventured into Mood Music, Scoring, and Library Music. Collaborations with Mino Music and Lalela Music underscored his versatility and dedication to his craft.

Throughout his journey, Tiyani remained not just a creator, but also a part-time vocalist, lending his voice to the narratives woven within his compositions. His music became more than just sound; it became a testament to the human experience, a reflection of the journey from the streets of Alexandra to the world stage.
