Arp Frique

Rebirth
REBD079 | 2023-07-28
We are very excited to welcome Arp Frique to the Rebirth catalogue.
Coming from Rotterdam, Arp Frique has always been a lover of the analogue sound of the Arp Vintage synths, and of the disco-flavored music of Chic, in particular 'Le Freak'. Hence his name.
Arp Frique's music is original and made with live instruments. Mind you though, that all compositions are the product of the "insatiable creative urge" of just one man.

His productions, including 4 albums on Rush Hour, have drawn attention from DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Peggy Gou, Floating Points, Hunee, Antal and many more, bringing his music to the clubs around the world while simultaneously receiving airplay on the BBC, KCRW and NTS, to name a few. But mostly, Arp Frique is known for his live experience. With his collective he performed all throughout Europe and Asia, from the clubs to the big stages such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz, Dekmantel, Transmusicales, Womad and beyond besides playing sessions for KEXP, Red Bull Music, Radio Nova and many other leading platforms.

'Shangaan Time' is a track that goes outside of any scheme, mixing a high energy percussive groove with an exotic melody made with a piano chord and an infective electronic synth lead.
'Apocalypso' and 'Reality in Flux' have that very cool exotic and Afrocaribbean funk melody, with a touch of psychedelic weirdness. The Italian producer Raffaele ‘Whodamanny’ Arcella rework of ‘Shangaan Time’ slows down the song, building a cosmic disco groove on a funky bass played by Daniel Monaco and a vocal line performed by Arp Frique exclusively for this version.
